Wake up, dozy Wiltshire Council

No cases of fraud involving the blue disabled parking badge were detected in the county last year, according to a report to Wiltshire Council by auditors. The average number reported to unitary authorities in southern England was 18 cases.

There were 198 cases of housing and council tax benefit fraud, valued at £830,505, detected by the council compared with the southern average for unitary authorities of 178 cases, valued at £470,661.

The report says Wiltshire did not detect any cases of council tax discount, right-to-buy or social housing fraud.

The auditors say an estimated two per cent of social housing outside London is subject to tenancy fraud.

And the southern unitary authority average for council tax discount fraud was 147 cases last year.
