South Wales Argus editorial

We learn of yet another plan to target those who fraudulently claim benefits.

The government says it is now going to target parents who secretly live with someone as husband and wife while claiming benefits for being single.

We back anything that targets these fraudsters.

This type of fraud alone costs the taxpayer almost £100 million in overpaid benefits.

In a separate case, another benefit fraudster took £37,000 despite inheriting £100,000.

We see these cases day in, day out, and it has gone on for too long.

So while we support any initiative aimed at catching these people we also support heavy sentences for them.

Until those who want to cheat the system see other fraudsters given long jail terms they will continue to commit fraud.
