More benefit thieves

Albert Davies, a pensioner from Walmley who claimed £30,000 in mobility benefits because he was "too sick to feed himself", was filmed playing an 18 hole round of golf. He received a ten-week jail sentence, suspended for 18 months, and was made subject to an electronically monitored curfew for three months.

A mature student from Hayes who claimed more than £20,000 in benefits between November 2007 and June 2009 despite collecting a grant for her studies, has been spared jail because of her children. Edil admitted four charges. For each offence she was sentenced to three months’ jail, suspended for two years, and 150 hours of unpaid work.
