Almost £1 million in benefit and council tax fraud has been identified by Kingston Council. In a record-breaking year that saw the council underline its zero tolerance of fraud, over £320,000 worth of fraud was identified from 22 prosecutions. A further 72 cases were issued cautions or fines, and 90 cases were found to be incorrect. Together, a total of just under £1 million was identified and is currently being recovered.
Islington Council has won 27 separate prosecutions in a year with a further 82 cases where penalties were imposed - including financial penalties. In total, more than £1m has been identified in fraudulently claimed Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit, Jobseekers Allowance and Income Support. The Council is now working towards recovering this money.
