Joao Pedro Lando, from Hayes, has been sentenced to 15 months imprisonment after fraudulently claiming £17,942 of benefits.
Mr Lando claimed housing and council tax benefit and income support while failing to disclose student support in the forms of grants, loans and while he was also in paid employment.
The District Judge commented that this was a systematic abuse of the benefit system over a considerable number of years. He went on to explain that Mr Lando was an intelligent man who had obtained an expensive education and had six years in which to own up but chose not do so.
