64% of 300 people
surveyed for the New Local Government Network said that it is very appropriate for councils to use directed surveillance to tackle drug dealing, whilst 62% felt it was very appropriate for organised crime; 59% for theft and 50% for benefit fraud.
Meanwhile, Worcestershire County Council
have decided to oppose the Government’s controversial multi-billion-p
ound ID card scheme “at every possible stage”.
