Judge Jeremy Burford is a soft touch

Lorraine Morgan from Southampton failed to tell the authorities that she had a partner who was in work. This brought her a total of £37,866 in income support and housing benefit over a 4-year period.

The Judge said only a fraction of the money had been repaid. A bad case then. But he told her:
You claimed large sums over the years but your principal motive was to support your two young children. For that reason I’m proposing to suspend your prison sentence.
He gave her a 34-week prison sentence, suspended for two years.

Maybe the Judge wimp feels good about this. The community shouldn't. Judge Jeremy Burford has failed to do his duty.

Ms Morgan cheated taxpayers of £37,866 over four years. And what punishment is she suffering? None.

How many readers of that report will be thinking, "I'll have some, please"?
